This is the end...

Beautiful friends, the end!

But only for a short while, because it starts again soon enough. Spiralling upwards like some crazed strand of DNA, it will all come back around again, vaguely familiar and oddly different. Some faces will be gone, and new ones will appear. Rooms might change, new fads might appear, but we will be back, bigger and better, faster and stronger.

Remember September? We'd been knocked down. But we got up again. Just like Andy Murray learnt to do. Here's what I said about him just over a year ago:

Andy Murray. Scotland's finest when he loses, best of British when he wins. Good. Very good. But not outstanding. Why not? 

Belief. He's tormented. He doesn't believe he can match the three outstanding players who are ranked above him. He may be unlucky in having three all time greats playing at the same time, but it's clear watching him that he doesn't really believe. 

He's learnt to believe in the last year. This is why he's won the Olympic title and two grand slams. That's us, that is. About to step up to the top class. We're good - very good - but there's more to come.

I already believed, but know I know. Your response to the immense disappointment last summer has, in itself, been immense - like a phoenixes you have risen from the ashes, unlike Sisyphus you've rolled the boulder to the top. And it's going to stay there. Until we roll it down at the government.

Your marking has been better than ever. We've worked harder and smarter. The consistency in the quality of lessons has been astounding. The sharing of ideas and strategies has been superb. 

But there's more to come. Both from what were doing well, and from our areas of weakness.

Next year, progress and differentiation are the targets, so think on them this summer. We cannot be satisfied until we know we're the best we can be. And that cannot come until after we're retired, when we look back, knowing that everyday we tried to be better that the day before. Better than the year before, better than the lesson before.

Enjoy this final week, enjoy your summer, enjoy your new jobs, and see you in the future.
